Rob MacGillivray

I live in South London.  My art education was at Chelsea School of Art (Foundation) and St Martin's School of Art (BA Hons).   However, I went off and did other things for quite a while. I only started working professionally as an artist in the last ten years.

I draw everything at speed directly from life.  I do that because either I lack imagination or I am lazy and want the drawing bit finished quickly or perhaps because it gives the pictures a unique energy.  Maybe all three.

I had my first solo exhibition at the Jeannie Avent Gallery in 2013.  In 2021, all being equal, I will be back there in September for my ninth show.  Many thanks to Jeannie for allowing me into her gallery every year.

If you want to know even more about me check out the no-holds-barred FAQ page.

On this website you'll find a lot of my work, but not all of it.  I don't display all my original artwork for sale here.  It is too difficult to keep fully up to date and list all the options for framing and shipping and that kind of thing.  If you like my work and are interested it getting an original piece, contact me and I'll send you the a list of pictures available.  Or come to my next exhibition.  At any time there is always a number of original artworks for sale, just ask.

I also have a webshop where you can easily purchase a wide range of cards and prints.

thanks

I must mention some people who have helped me in one way and another:

Fitch & Fellows - Susannah has been a generous suporter of my work for some time and my cards and pictures are for sale in her shop in Thame.

Know & Love - Karen, who runs this wonderful company full of unique and tasteful ideas, has been crazy enough to invest in my work much more than I deserve.  She even sells my cards.  And she is lovely.

The Dulwich Art Group - Alison and Simon run a fantastic group for artists of all abilities.  Primarily life classes, but they also do short courses in oil painting, portraiture and landscapes.  They are lovely people and work very hard to keep their passion for art and artists alive.  I often exhibited as part of their annual show.

Gabrielle Bradshaw.  If she hadn't pushed me, I would never have jumped!  Please have a look at her work, it's beautiful and exciting.

Coral Woods - my sister is also an artist with an impressive variety of skills from digital animation to kinetic sculpture as well as traditional media. She's been an inspiration to me all my life and I'm delighted she is still pursuing her art so vigourously.
